Responsible people of Gaddani incident would not be spared: CM

QUETTA: Deploring the fire incident at Gaddani Shipbreaking Yard, Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Sanaullah Zehri has pointed finger at custom authorities for the loss of lives, LPG products are brought to Gaddani in connivance with custom authorities and in a bid to smuggle these products inflammable matter is brought to Gaddani in haste.

Expressing his views during the session of Balochistan Assembly on point of order, he said that the incident is highly deplorable and report of the incident has been sought while the owner of the whip Diwan Rizwan is under arrest. CM said that the responsible men would not be spared for the inferno and convicts would be dealt with strictly. He said that tough decisions have been made on Gaddani Shipbreaking Yard and no compromise would be made on the rights of the poor even if the Shipbreaking Yard had to be closed.

He said that unless proper facilities are provided to the workers, the matter would be pursued.

Speaking on the occasion, Member of the Provincial Assembly Sardar Saleh Bhootani said that it breaking out of fire and loss of workers’ lives had become a routine matter at the Shipbreaking Yard, adding that tall claims are made after each incident but no concrete efforts are ever taken to preempt the incidents.

Opposition Member Sardar Abdur Rehman Kehtran demanded compensation to the dependants of the deceased murders. Minister Planning and Development (P&D) Dr. Hamid Achakzai also conveyed his condolences over the death of two workers at shipbreaking yard and demanded action against the ones responsible for the outbreak of fire.

On the other hand, the Judicial Magistrate Gaddani Ms Sana Ashfaq handed over the four accused in Gaddani Shipbreaking Yard fire incident to police on 5 days physical remand. Former Chairman Pakistan Ship Breaking Assocation Rizwan Dewan was also among the accused who included Bakht Rawan, Ali Khasta and Khan Muhammad.

The accused were presented before the Judicial Magistrate and police requested physical remand of the accused which was granted by the court.
