QUETTA: People belonging to different walks of life have regarded the presence of polio virus in Balochistan a matter of great concern, saying that until a single child remains deprived of immunisation drops, the eradication of virus would remain a challenge.

Mayor Quetta Dr. Kaleemullah Kakar, Deputy Commissioner Quetta Engineer Abdul Wahid Kakar, Representative of World Health Organization Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Additional DC Naseebullah Khan Kakar, District Health Officer Shah Jahan Panezai and Counselor Muhammad Aslam Rind unfolded their thoughts during a seminar on Friday titled, “The Role of Local Government Representatives in Eradication of Polio” here in provincial capital.

Addressing to the participants of the seminar, Mayor Quetta Dr. Kaleemullah Kakar said that Islam teaches us to help one another in the virtuous acts; therefore every member of the society have to join hands in unison to defeat the menace of polio. He said that there were certain misconceptions doing the rounds in the society regarding the immunisation drops and people were expressing certain reservations but awareness have to be created by everyone in the society regarding the efficacy of the drops. “In this regard the role of Ulema, teachers, tribal leaders, and political leadership is highly important,” Mayor Quetta outlined, stressing upon the Ulema to highlight the importance of immunisation campaigns efficacy through their sermons during Juma prayers from pulpit to do away with the misconception doing the rounds in the minds of common men.

He said that Polio is such a disease that paralyzed the patients for the entire life and stressed upon people belonging to all walks of life to sensitise every individual about the hazard of this disease.

He said that due to unwariness, battling diseases becomes all the more difficult, adding that there are certain place where crops are grown with contaminated water which proves poison for human life and this has to be stopped preferentially.

Deputy Commissioner Quetta Abdul Wahid Kakar also expressed his views, saying that efforts are coordinated by the District Administration and Health Department during the immunisation campaigns and the polio workers and security men deputed on campaign make maximum efforts that no child goes un-administered of immunisation drops.
