QUETTA: Two resolution were unanimously approved by Balochistan Assembly during its session on Thursday regarding construction of alternate airport for Quetta International Airport and environmental and climate changes in the province.

The session of the Balochistan Assembly began with 50 minutes delay here on Thursday which was chaired by the Speaker BA Ms. Raheela Hameed Durrani.

Speaking on the point of order, Deputy Opposition Leader Engineer Zamrak Khan Achakzai said that engineers were protesting outside Assembly as they were being removed from administrative posts as they were from technical cadre despite the fact they are qualified people and have good know how of technical affairs than ordinary officers, adding that this is an attention seeking issue and these people should be allowed to serve on these posts. He said that if it is needed, changes should be brought in their service structure through an amendment in service rules, adding that a committee should be formed in this regard which should supervise this issue.

Syed Liaqat Agha agreed with the suggestions of Engineer Zamrak and seconded the amendment in service structures.

Prince Ali Ahmed said that this is an important issue and technical people can understand technical issues in a better way as CPEC project was in the pipeline for which Balochistan would need technical people.

Sardar Abdul Rehman Kehtran demanded revoking of any notification for the removal of technical officers, adding that it was not intended to curb the rights of other officers but it is also a fact that the technical officers had better understanding of the affairs than non-technical. He said that technical officers should necessarily be placed in Health, PHE, C&W and many other such departments.

Sardar Raza Muhamad Bareech also agreed with the suggestions following which Speaker BA Ms Raheela Durrani gave ruling of establishment of a committee whose members would consult with all parliamentary parties and would compile their recommendations to present in the house.

Provincial Minister for Planning and Development Dr. Hamid Khan Achakzai presented a joint resolution regarding construction of an alternate airport for Quetta International Airport, saying that it was a world practice that each international airport had an alternative airport for emergency situation therefore provincial government should talk to the federal government for construction of an alternative airport for Quetta International Airport at Pishin or Gulistan. He said that the important thing about Gulistan was that airports were already made by the British colonists there and in Gulistan the runway made by Britons stretches upon 2 thousand acres which is possession of Tareen tribe, adding that no extensive efforts but a deal with the tribe would do the job.  Haji Islam of National Party said that it was an important resolution but the areas of Dasht and Kanak should also be considered for its alternative constructions as run ways were made in those places during the times of British colonists as in Pishin and Guilistan. Towards the end, the Resolution for alternate airport was approved after considerable discussion by the members of Balochistan Assembly.
