PANJGUR: A Pakistani national was killed and another injured when the Iranian border security forces lobbed mortar shells on Sunday forenoon.

The dead man was identified as Abdul Khaliq, a resident of the Pakistan-Iran border region of Prom which is the most frequent target of Iranian mortar shelling and rocket fire without any provocation of justification.

The incident took place at Nukur in Prom area close to the Iranian border where the Iranian border security forces opened indiscriminate mortar shelling on the Pakistani settlement aiming at the lives of the local and border residents and creating harassment among the people.

According to district official sources, around nine mortar shells were fired on the Pakistani territory without any provocation. The district administration Chief, Mr. Habibur Rehman Kakar, immediately contacted his counterpart on other side of the international border and registered the strong protest for unprovoked shelling killing a civilian and wounding another.

The official confirmed that the one of the shells hit the passing vehicle killing Abdul Khaliq instantly. The man was injured while working on a nearby agriculture field and he was taken to the Government hospital for treatment.

The Pakistani forces placed on high alert following the unprovoked shelling on the peaceful Pakistani settlement where no movement of people close to the international border was reported at the time of shelling.

Some observers claimed that the Iranian mortar shelling on the Pakistani Balochistan was deliberate because the Pakistan Army Chief is visiting Saudi Arabia and he was received by the Saudi Defence Minister who is also crown prince of the Saudi Kingdom.

However, there was no official confirmation or endorsement of such views from the private citizens of Mekran.
