QUETTA: District Chairmen of all Municipal Committees staged protest in front of Balochistan Assembly on Monday demanding their legitimate rights and power transferring on grassroots level.

QUETTA: District Chairmen of all Municipal Committees staged protest in front of Balochistan Assembly on Monday demanding their legitimate rights and power transferring on grassroots level.

The District Chairmen from across the province protested in front of Balochistan PA while the Assembly Proceeding was underway and threatened to intensify their movement in defence of their basic rights.

The protesters led by District Chairman Quetta Municipal Committee Quetta Naeem Bazai staged the protest demonstration. The protesters carried-out placards and chanted slogans in support of their demands.

“Local Bodies elections was held in Balochistan three years back; but still the system needs to be geared-up to immediately resolve public issues,” Naeem Bazai told the protesters.

“The Local Government Minister Sardar Mustafa Tareen conceded lack of power to functionalize Local Bodies system in Balochistan.”

The protesters urged the provincial government to gear-up Local Government system to maintain law and order and provide relief to the general masses.

They said, if the provincial government failed to transfer power at the lowest level, thus they would be compelled to intensify their movement for their basic rights.

To show their anger, District Chairmen across the province locked their office and stopped working.

Provincial Cabinet members Sheikh Jaffar Mandokhail and Sardar Aslam Bizenjo met with protesting chairmen a day ago and agreed to hold meeting amid 10 Municipal Chairmen and Chief Minister Balochistan.
