The Pakistan Awami Tehrik had started its protest agitation seeking revenge of the blood of its 14 activists shed in police firing in Lahore some two years. On the first day, the PAT workers and activists organized protest rallies in 105 townships and cities demonstrating their orderly behaviour during the rallies all over Pakistan. Dr Tahirul Qadri addressed a huge crowd in Lahore claiming that Indian Government is defending Nawaz Sharif regime for strategic reasons. He spoke at length on various issues saying that he and his party would seek revenge of the innocent people killed in police firing. He claimed that the police firing was unprovoked and uncalled for that killed 14 PAT activists in cold blood. He made a revealing speech claiming that Punjab is the Ideological capital of terrorism in Pakistan, mother of terrorism in North Waziristan. He said that the top terrorist leadership and their mentors are residing in the Punjab, all the ammunition dumps; training centres are located in the Punjab.  Punjab had a strategic link with the terrorism and its promotion in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and still there is no action by the Nawaz Sharif Government. Operations are being conducted against the terrorists all over the country and Punjab is exempted by Sharifs, the ruling family. Referring to his speech on the Floor of the National Assembly, Nawaz Sharif had confessed that he had established and sold steel mills and factories in Dubai and Saudi Arabia and bought property in London and still he had not declared that assets in his declaration before the Election Commission. Only on this confession or speech on the floor of the National Assembly is enough to disqualify him as Member of the National Assembly.  He said there is no need of any further evidence. His confession will lead to his disqualification.

Holding simultaneous rallies in 105 townships and cities is a big political event in the political history of Pakistan and particularly by a single party and not an alliance of major political parties. It indicates the popularity of the demand against the Government among the people and particularly among the political activists. Now the PAT had plans to hold similar agitation in other cities and townships almost daily and a big one will be held in the twin-city of Rawalpindi and Islamabad which will be addressed by Dr Tahirul Qadri making significant announcement.  The beginning of the agitation indicated a significant development on the political front that sooner or later other parties will also join the agitation with full force compelling the Prime Minister to resign following serious allegations of corruption against him and the Punjab Chief Minister. At the moment, Mian Nawaz Sharif had an option to nominate his successor as new Prime Minister and he should resign. Otherwise, the country will face massive dislocation of public life in shape of public agitation in all the major cities and townships of the country. The situation can take a serious turn when the PIT and the PPP join the agitation or hold separate rallies against the Nawaz Government seeking resignation of the Prime Minister. It is more advisable that the Prime Minister should agree to change of guard at the top level and pave the way for one of his successors to form a new Government. Dislocation of life is not in the interest of the country or the Government itself as such an agitation can lead the country to anarchy ultimately. It is the duty of the present Government to stop the drift towards anarchy at any stage and transfer power before the people take to streets in million and dislodge them by force and with total disgrace.
